Way back when I started teaching Computational Physics, we had two books, one by Koonin and
Meredith in Fortran with problematic graphics (although a basic framework was there)
and one by Gould and Tobochnik with limited graphics for Fortran.
We were using PGPLOT in research so its adoption natural. AS the TA wrote a basic routine for use with the random numer introduction and two students took the second and third chapters for their projects, and added graphics. This was the start of the Quantum chain of projects!!
