Finite Element Method

In this method, a continuous space is divided into finite elements, and the equations solved in each of these. It has a much wider range of engineering applications than our discrete atomic models. In the past I have provided a brief introduction in a final lecture, with a few sample codes, but have never been satisfied from a pedagogical viewpoint.

GPU suitability for Finite Element

It is an excellent fit, because calculations have to be repeated for many elements.

To MATLAB or not to MATLAB

Could devote several talks to this, but since are likely to use some canned code for FEM, MATLAB is easy to use with GPUs on most systems and solves the CUDA vs OpenCL dilemna.
